Celebrating 9 Years of Virtually There: 9 Essential Business Tips to Keep your Business  Going Strong

It’s hard to believe, but Virtually There is celebrating 9 incredible years in business! What started as a dream has turned into a journey full of lessons, challenges, and wins. To mark the occasion, I’m sharing 9 essential business tips I’ve learned over the years—each one a little nugget of wisdom that has helped me thrive. Some are hand-me-downs learnt or heard from others.  Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been in the game for a while, these tips are for you!

1. Keep Going – Consistency is Key
The first hurdle in business is sticking with it. There will be days when you feel like you’re running on empty, or you wonder what the hell you are doing, but the secret to success is showing up, day in and day out. Consistency isn’t just about hard work; it’s about resilience and the ability to keep going, even when the road gets a bit challenging.
2. Do You – Authenticity Wins
In a world full of noise, the best way to stand out is by being yourself. Authenticity is your superpower, and when you show up as the real you, people notice. Don’t try to fit into a mold—be true to yourself and watch how it resonates with your audience. Take things at your own pace, and do it your way!
3. Trust Your Gut
Your intuition is one of the most powerful tools you have as a business owner. When something feels off, it probably is. Trusting your gut has guided me through some tough decisions, (sometimes I have completely missed or ignored those signs!!!)  and I’m confident it will do the same for you.
4. Start Strong – Get the Basics Right
If I could give one piece of advice to anyone starting a business, it’s this: set yourself up for success from the start. Get the best tool in place from the get go.  Use Xero (or another) for your accounting, register for GST, and believe in yourself that you’re going to hit that $60k+ mark. It’s not just about dreaming big; it’s about laying a solid foundation.
5. Own It – Be Seen, Be Heard
You can’t sell a secret. If you want people to buy from you, you need to put yourself out there. Show up, speak up, and let people know what you’re all about. Remember, people buy from people—they want to connect with the person behind the brand.
6. Plan Like a Pro – Lists Are Your Best Friend
I’m a huge fan of lists. There’s something so satisfying about ticking off tasks, and that little dopamine hit is the best kind of biz buzz. Plan ahead, make lists, and enjoy the feeling of progress as you work through them.
7. Hire an Accountant – Don’t Wait!
One of my biggest business “wish I had done that earlier’s!” Waiting until year 7 to hire an accountant. If I could go back, I’d do it so much sooner. An accountant is more than just a number cruncher—they’re a partner who can help you navigate the financial and tax side of your business with confidence.
8. Outsource Now – Free Up Your Time
What biz activity is taking up too much of your time? Imagine the client work you could achieve if you weren’t bogged down by tasks that aren’t your zone of genius. Outsource those time-consuming tasks and focus on what you do best—your business will thank you for it.
9. Have Fun – Enjoy the Ride
Business is a rollercoaster—there’s no denying it. But that’s what makes it exciting! Yes, there are tough days (let’s call it 25% chaos), but the majority of the time, it’s all about those “heck yes!” moments (a solid 75%!). Enjoy every twist and turn, because that’s what makes the journey worthwhile.

Running a business is an adventure, and over the past 9 years, I’ve learned that it’s not just about the destination—it’s about the journey. I hope these tips inspire you to keep going, stay true to yourself, and most importantly, have fun along the way. Here’s to many more years of Virtually There and to the success of all of you who’ve been a part of my incredible biz journey!
